Is NAT safe?

submitted by Trope to technology 7 hoursMay 13, 2025 15:13:47 ago (+0/-0)     (technology)

Many of us have devices on consumer grade routers and even fewer are allowing any sort of port forwarding. Are these routers generally safe?

I’ve had security autists ramble on and on that the shit isn’t safe by any measure. Though I reckon 99.9% of compromises are the result of social engineering.

Why are they calling NAT unsafe?
Network Address Translation is used literally everywhere.

Consumer routers do suck, but I dont think its because of NAT.
Also, Nowadays, a consumer is expected to be full retard, so consumer gear defaults are a bit more cautious than they were in the past decades.
