Ok, I'm not that niggardly (as @master_foo calls me) but I needed to finish off one end of the shed siding so I needed a temporary fix 🤠

If you want to repair it, try one of these two options:
1-superglue and baking soda(that shit is strong with plastic) you can even sand that down after full cure making it look pretty
2-have a soldering iron? Weld that plastic back together homeboy. Find some similar type(abs i think) plastic to add to it. You can use metal staples to act as a stitch and plastic weld them into and across the crack.

Sure you could just buy a new one, but where is the fun and progress of your own skills in that?

You can use zip ties as filler plastic when welding plastic.

Wouldn't a binding epoxy be a better choice? It's not expensive

It’s a ryobi, epoxy is overkill. I joke, I joke. But my suggestions were specifically mentioned since most people have those on hand and if you’ve never seen just how good ca and baking soda works, i think youd be surprised. I know I was the first time i used it. But yeah, epoxy has a great tensile strength but that can easily be mitigated with the use of the staples or similar. I dont honestly know if the difference in tensile strength would make any difference in this case as the bond in either the ca/baking soda or the epoxy is likely stronger than the plastic it bonds.

how does the battery connect like that?

did you know metal zip ties (and tool) exist? I didn't until recently and they are pretty cool.

I discovered metal zip ties just recently as well. Pretty cool!

There is a slight indentation along the bottom where the battery attaches that allows me to get the zips on and still barely get the battery attached.
This was just a temporary fix for like 10 screws. I plan on buying another sometime this week.

I have some of those stainless steel 'zip' ties. They're super strong.

I'm sure they will last many years beyond the others in the sun.

Ryobi is a good hobbyist brand.
Good for garage work.
I have a whole collection and haven't been disapointed.
Just don't be a retard and drop the tools off a roof.

How will the battery go on?

[ - ] Sector2 0 points 1 weekOct 1, 2024 12:36:03 ago (+0/-0)

You're practically a Certified Nigger Rigger. Temporarily replace that zip tie after applying some JB Weld to the cracks and you'll have years left in that Ryobi.

We use Dewalt at work and our impact driver has been doing good but the Drill on the other hand, chuck is already fucked. Luckily these things are relatively cheap if you have batteries to spare.

That's the deal, I have batteries and other Ryobi tools, so switching to some other brand would be way more cash than I care to spend for my weekend warrior activity.

Until 6 months later they discontinue your model and the batteries don't fit anymore with the new model.

There's off brand battery adapters to make the various brands compatible.
