I meant ego as in your foundational identity. The stuff which makes people become obstinate or even violent when you attempt to prove it false. For example, lets say I had irrefutable proof that Christ was not the messiah and I attempted to show this information to christians. Very, very few of them would even consider looking at the proof and even fewer would actually chnge their belief.

If for some reason, a reputable dude proved that the hitler tunnels never existed, maybe I'd be a little bit upset, but I wouldn't utterly disregard it. It would be like "Damn, that sucks, ah well, it was far fetched anyways."

I seem to recall an article where Patton was being very pragmatic, saying that as long as they had all the equipment and infrastructure in place in 1945, driving to Moscow would be the next logical step.

Either fight them right away, or fight them later and have to re-establish the troops and the supply lines during a fighting war which made little sense.
