As a rule I don't make references to the pretend games of Hollywood with the exception being "based upon historical events" and even then there's research that has to be done to verify fact from disinformation, misinformation and no information.
But there are some good historical documentaries out there and with that there's a lot of parallels pertinent to today's life.
This is just a curiosity thing, nothing to establish backwards or forward.
Re the movie Gladiator, the last fight for Maximus was against Titus of Gaul. Blah blah blah tigers and a sore foot the Gaul is down and Max is overtop with the Gaul's axe raised in wait for "thumbs up or down".
The crowd is pumped and yelling kill kill kill, the emperor, Commodus, gives Max the "thumbs down " knowing that his order would be denied, opposite of whatever order he gave, an insult to him with that act of defiance reshaping his image with not only the mob but his soldiers and the senate.
He gives the "thumbs down" and Maximus drops the axe in defiance of the emperor and Titus the Gull lives.
QUESTION...if it was you with the purple robe how would you have expressed your order to someone who you know will defy you,
This is a reality scenario, not a hypo. This is about dealing with and directing the flow of thought with stubborn adversaries.
I'll post my position later whether you faggots engage or not.

I would have directed that the gladiator make his own decision rather than give a direct order that he would've defied anyways.
