I've been drawing an unrelated moral from the Taiping Rebellion. I thought that it explained why the Chinese are so twitchy around Christianity and its successor, Islam.

But this article has a different take, pointing to the decay of the Imperial Examination system. So many people with fake "degrees" and "student debt". Kind of. If you squint hard. The article pushed the over-production of elites theory.
