You won't be using CW - continuous wave, the mode that uses morse code with a uv-5r. Get the tech license first. Morse is great but first things first.

Start studying for that tech license. When you do, you will get the questions you have answered. baofeng uv-5r transmits on the 2 meter and 70 cm bands. 144 & 420 MHz. You will most likely use repeaters to connect very far.
