On the Friday Night Guitar Thread. Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned. Cause there's something in a Friday. That makes a body feel alone. And there's nothin' short of dyin'. Half as lonesome as the sound. On the sleepin' city sidewalks. Friday evenin' comin' down. Music is for sharing!     (Guitar)

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Upgoat.net go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

It's a lazy Friday night but we'll still have the guitar thread. It's what we do. It is something we've done for more than seven years. Think about where you were seven years ago and come enjoy the music...     (Guitar)

Recording while using a cabinet modeler. (Electric guitar verson)     (Guitar)

I have done some recording on and off. I had, at one point, stopped trying to mic amplifiers (think: pointing a shure right at the speaker to reduce any splashy noise, or unwanted acoustics.) My newer (few years ago) is to go direct. I pass my guitar through a Joyo Cab Box (I know, cheap, don't care). I love that it can model a cabinet and also add impusle response. You can also customize everything. I find the recording quality to be much better, and I don't need to mess around with setting up mics, etc.

Anyway, not an expert, but have learned a lot from failure. If anyone wants more info, or has any questions, i will be here instigating others out on the main board.

Whispers in the Wind - Mike Baker     (www.youtube.com)

Mike Baker.

Whispers in the Wind is a dark, acoustic journey that weaves country guitar with haunting jazz and blues influences. The instrumental intro draws you in with a catchy, melancholic melody that sets the mood for a track rich with depth and emotion. Every note carries its own weight, drifting like a lonely breeze on a cold night. This song is perfect for those moments when you want to reflect or let the music speak what words can’t express. For the times when silence says it all, let Whispers in the Wind be your soundtrack. YouTube.

I've been through probably 50 or 60 acoustic guitars in the past 15 years. If the real number is 80 I wouldn't be surprised.

The acoustic I'm keeping was given to me for free and it's worth a hundred bucks, has no case because it's a jumbo, is made of plastic but sounds more balanced than most instruments. I recommend jumbos. This piece of shit is my brother for life.

After starting jazz on acoustic I switch over to this little electric and I am flying. I knew that would happen but it is really cool. It's like bowling with bumpers.

It's only got one pickup which is a P90. I've seen people suggest that this pickup will not produce a jazz sound. It is an interesting design. I'm also using picks again which is like training wheels, bumpers what have you. Having a lot of fun right now

It has been Friday in my head all day long. In fact, I've said 'Friday' today when talking to people.

Not one person corrected me. I even had a doctor's appointment! In my head, that was on Friday.

Man, I'm getting old...

Mick Jagger is on the record that Mick Taylor was the best & "most musical" guitarist the band ever had, that he had found it easier to sing to MT's playing more so than anyone else.

Kelly Valleau was born and raised in Belleville, Ontario and started playing guitar at 15. He was in a hard rock band at 17, got ripped off by a club owner when he was 19, and by age 21 Kelly had hung up the electric guitar gone back to the nylon string acoustic guitar .. at this time he must be regarded as one of the premier fingerpicking guitarists of all time.
