I went down a rabbithole about the surname Cohen and saw a list of variants, and what do you know, there was a highly controversial former Irish prime-minister's name. I couldn't find a direct source saying he's jewish, but his brother is on a list of "famous Irish jews" so that kinda cinches it.

For context he was the finance minister throughout a period called the celtic tiger where the ruling party heated up the Irish economy to breaking point with cheap credit for property loans. Then he took over as taoiseach (prime minister) in time for the crash. He guaranteed the shitty loans using public funds then resigned shortly afterwards.

Another political Irish jew (Alan Shatter) was justice minister in the same period. He oversaw the writing of Ireland's extremely liberal refugee laws, but later complained they didn't go far enough.

I grew up thinking those evil fucks were Irish and those were Irish names. Now I wonder how many more of them there are.
