Canada has moved to make the asset freezing part of its Emergencies Act, which was used to target supporters of the Freedom Convoy protests, a permanent fixture.
It's an old type that works, and is extremely hard to track and trace. It can't be shut off, and doesn't disappear unless it's physically destroyed. There's also no specialized knowledge or technology required to use it. They're phasing it out like they're phasing out non-electric cars because users can operate independently of their controls.
