Over the past few months some birds had made a nest in my backyard, right next to the area that I go to smoke my cigarettes. Best I can tell they were Bewick's Wrens. I watched them build their nest, watched them hatch their eggs, watched them make unending trips to feed the little fucker that hatched. I honestly never knew baby birds would eat baby lizards, but god damn did the parents have a talent for killing baby lizards for their young to feast.

Today, just after sunrise, I went out and the fledgling wren was spooked by me and abandoned it's nest. Just to paint a better picture, the nest was about two feet from my sliding glass door. I moved a folding chair so I could possibly help the little peeper back to it's home. Little fucker wasn't having that shit and hopped off to a thicket of ferns about twenty feet from the house. I noticed that it's parents were keeping an eye on it and they reunited in the ferns, never to return to the nest.

Long story short: Dislodged the best (since it has been abandoned) and there was an unhatched egg still inside (which is not uncommon). Wanna see? Check it out. Egg is about the size of a nickel.

It was a little emotional for me. I imagine it's something close to what people feel like when they're favorite TV show has it's final episode or something. Overall a really awesome experience though.
