If you want to see where a lot of the colonials lived it's in the North End, which is East of the Common. You'll see a lot of spots there like the Old Statehouse, Fanueil Hall and Paul Revere's House. They also have the Boston Massacre site marked.
Last time I was there they had a bar across the street from the Granary Burial Ground so you can toast Sam Adams with one of his own brews. It's got to still be open.
