More than half of all 350,000 tonnes of the natural gas — methane - in the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea had leaked into the atmosphere after they were damaged by explosions.

The rest is expected to escape by Sunday, so inspections of the damaged structures could begin after one or two weeks.

The leaks could have the effect of almost 30 million tonnes of CO2, or more than two-thirds of the annual emissions of Denmark.
