When the Betelgeuse brouhaha broke a couple of yrs ago I began taking particular interest in the star, it is possible it could have dimmed by about half of one magnitude for a while, however months ago before the Sun rendered it invisible it seemed ok to me, while there were no extra brightenings the whole time that I witnessed.
