Help

submitted by anon to AnonWhatever 5 monthsJan 9, 2025 21:50:53 ago (+19/-0)     (AnonWhatever)

Father is incarcerated at the moment. He is safe - but he is showing signs of dementia. Jail staff reports that he doesn't quite know where he is.

He's 73 years old. (parole violation)

As you can imagine, I just can't call the jail and have them transfer me to a phone to talk to him. I'm a far drive away.

Any advice on how to contact him? Do I go through an attorney? Is there an administrative level to the jail vs. just calling intake?

I'm not getting through with the main numbers listed on the website.

Thanks for any advice goats.

OP here:

Still….nothing. No communication.

I’ve tried talking to all jail departments - nurses, admin , main line.

Some are sympathetic and say they will try to help, others are how you imagine power mad copschool dropouts are.

Learning experience for me. 23 days no communication.

A kind attorney spoke with me about the entire situation and basically said even HE is powerless over how his clients fair in jail. His advice is to lean on his PO to get info and an assessment of his health. Once we have some info, then the attorney can maybe take some action. Attorney spent about 20-25 minutes just understanding our situation and talking about how the jail system is really separate from the legal system.

We wait. Feels bad man.

Don’t go to jail goats.

Edit: you can pay for an inmate to have phone privileges. Several relatives have put money in his account. Still…nothing. I’m not convinced he’s mentally capable of using the system.
Fuck.
