It's fascinating to read about the adversity his tiny revolt against prevailing aesthetics caused in Austrian society. He argued it was more pure. More modest. Entirely reasonable. But also dangerously subversive.
In the end he advocated nothing less than to abandon tradition which is also the first step to nihilism. Of course people complained and wanted him out. This is what a society with
something to lose acted like.
