"Most new knitters start by making a scarf. The first thing this artist ever knitted was an Irish fisherman's sweater. Both unconventional and frugal - and always up for a challenge - he sources his fiber from thrift-store sweaters and then up-cycles the yarn into new items, such as hats and blankets."
I like to take the advice of men who do things that are frequently considered slightly female because they are just going to do it better. Want to learn how to cook, listen to a man. Want to learn how to do graphic design, listen to a man. Much more serious and practical.
But this man is taking apart sweaters to knit sweaters.
Though if yarn is so expensive that taking apart sweaters to produce it makes sense then there might be a market for selling it online. Forget knitting the sweater. If the going rate of yarn is too expensive to buy then it is expensive enough to sell.
