Fake Ben Garrison cartoons     (whatever)

submitted by Sheitstrom to whatever 1.7 years ago

The "Ben Garrison" cartoons showing calls to violence or reference people by religion or color are fabrications. These cartoons, which usually feature a comically enlarged "Ben Garrison" signature are actually made by his political opponents and are used to paint Mr. Garrison as an "extremist". These fake cartoons made it hard for Mr. Garrison to sue the ADL in 2020 because they have sullied his name. So keep in mind when you share one of these "Ben Garrison" fakes, you are ultimately reducing his legitimate reach and ability to attract new readers.

A similar tactic is used on Upgoat. Any time a message is posted that may generate legitimate discussion, the first "goats" who respond forum slide the post using endless racial and religious epithets and arguing among themselves. I'm fairly certain many "arguments" are actually all the same person with sock-puppets, using as much profanity and incendiary language as possible. Thus, the thread is derailed and loses legitimacy because it is now "extreme far-right rhetoric" that can be ignored... all beneficial messaging and call-to-action is lost among a sea of vitriol.

Why is Elon Musk really being sued by the federal government?     (whatever)

submitted by Sheitstrom to whatever 1.7 years ago

...to make people feel powerless and show that the feds can attack anyone. The case against Musk is on its face ludicrous and contradictory - and that is the point.

Musk is accused of not hiring refugees (non-Americans/non-green card holders) at his space company. Federal law explicitly makes it illegal to hire non-Americans/non-green card holders.

It is illegal for Musk to hire refugees and the government is suing him for not hiring refugees. This Kafkaesque prosecution is designed to intimidate, de-moralize, frustrate and financially drain Musk in order to ultimately suppress his free-speech activities. This circus-like show prosecution is purposefully contradictory - they know it's a lie and they are getting as many people to repeat the lie as possible to flex their power.

Luckily, Musk will most likely tell them to fuck themselves as hard as possible, which is refreshing.

Four more Kevin Spacey accusers to mysteriously die     (nypost.com)

Bucking the trend of his current murder spree, Kevin Spacey decided to "change things up a bit" and kill his accusers *after* trial, not before (as is his usual MO). "Variety... is the spice of life" said a manically grinning Spacey, while eyeing the jury hungrily.

It isn't tailored to you - You are tailored to it     (whatever)

submitted by Sheitstrom to whatever 1.8 years ago

Faceberg, Google and all the rest are not "tailored to you". I hear that all the time, that the reason it is so hard to stop using social media is because it is an entertainment source that never ends, tailored directly to your wants and desires.

That is not the case. Social media analyzes your behavior and generates content that *steers you towards changing your behavior to suit the goals of the social media companies*.

Think of it this way. Search engines no longer search. They analyze your search request and then match it against the 10,000 sites on their reliable media list. They then provide you with a link that will feed you NPC talking points that suits their desires. They literally weaponize search and social media to turn you into an NPC.

Every.single.link you get from big tech is a political act against you.

The movie, tv and music industry is on one side of the coin
The pornography and exploitation industry is on the other side of the coin

The entire "entertainment industry" is run by the same people on both sides.

You can't clean up just one part of it - the same monsters run it all. It's all or nothing.

Trust but Verify and Trust the Science(tm)     (whatever)

submitted by Sheitstrom to whatever 1.8 years ago

Ronald Reagan's "Trust but Verify" quote regarding the Soviet Union was popular in the press of the time and the general public. It was of course complete nonsense, because trust is the opposite of verification.

Similarly, "Trust the Science" is antithetical the the very nature of science, which requires zero trust because the "science" is verifiable and reproducible.

It's easy to accept sophistry because it sounds catchy. We should all be sure to jump down the throats of people peddling similar bullshit notions in the future.

Eid al-Adha revelers got a bit rowdy this weekend in Paris, fomenting boisterous celebrations - which included fireworks - all over the country. Things seemed to be going perfectly until rioting, looting and a tiny revolution broke out a bit. When reached for comment, Emmanuel Macron, the president of France responded, "shhh! Elton John's just about to start the fiddle solo!"
