My BIL used to drive motorcycles stupid fast, and do some stunts (I think he and his crew were in something like the DMX Ruff Riders video- which is hilarious since BIL is blue eyed blond hair).
He said when he's riding so fast on the road, he is looking an eighth of a mile ahead. There's no way to turn a bike going so fast quickly, so he's looking towards the horizon to make his trajectory and hoping nothing changes around him. I'm sure it's a fucking adrenaline trip for sure, but also holy fuck that is scary as shit to trust the other drivers on the road to not make a random lane change.
BIL ended up relatively unscathed from his insane antics- but ended up getting his back fucked up when he got rear-ended at a stop light... go figure.
yeah, it's retarded. Tetanus usually comes from bacteria in horse manure- which most people don't have to worry about. I think tetanus vax has been associated with causing infertility also.
yes, I can totally see that. Thankfully I'm not squeemish with blood. I was just very glad he was not freaking out/screaming so I knew the pain wasn't too unbearable for him.
Yes, I've thanked them via text/call a few times and they keep saying "don't worry, it takes a village" but I definitely want to do something more to show appreciation. I was thinking to buy them both orchid plants or something, but I know one of them would much rather a bottle of wine, haha.
Thanks a lot for the info. I did hear that superglue was originally intended to "put together" wounds quickly on the battlefield, I didn't know it was non-toxic though (it smells otherwise, lol).
I'll likely get some liquid bandages to add to the first aid kit, I got steri-strips which are kind of like a thin bandage that stays on for 2 weeks. Honestly we were considering just using the steri-strips since the bleeding was minimal, but the gash was very deep and wide open so we figured it was better suited for stitches.
I'm sure we will be utilizing steri-strips and liquid bandages at some point with this energetic kid so I appreciate the advice :)
That's amazing. My boy loves catching the chickens, but ours run much faster and are less domesticated than the video. He actually did put one in his red wagon last week and got it to somehow stay while he was playing on the scooter.
These kids are so resilient! Poor little buddy, blood loss is definitely a reason to wake the parents! haha.
I definitely try to appreciate every moment while he is young and still wants me to cuddle with him at night to fall asleep, especially bc my 11 yo daughter is becoming her own little person and I know it only lasts for so long. <3
I would be happy to have us all live together on our family property (we have multiple dwellings on our homestead and usually have 3 generations living here at a time). We work together as a communal family and support each other. We share in caring for the land, our farm animals, fruit trees/bushes, gardens, forest, and children/elderly. I think you are envisioning a small urban space without a back yard, with an adult son confined to a basement to get his "own space"- but how I live, family teamwork makes a much better and richer life, and is in many ways necessary to share the 'burden' of producing our own healthy food (especially when a few of us need jobs outside the home).
I would also be happy (and not surprised) if my little explorer decided to create his own homestead with the knowledge he gains from his upbringing on a working farm, where we have slaughtered our own chickens, grown our produce, and preserved it. But this is in no way a one person endeavor.
I'll just leave you with a 'bless your heart' and I wish you the best on your journey.
Vaseline is a petroleum based product made from chemical manufacturing waste shit, but that is what the hospital staff recommended. I'll probably do some calendula salve I made made from olive oil, beeswax and calendula flowers which are supposed to help flesh wounds. I know some people in my "natural mama" circles think collodial silver is amazing, while some are worried that it can accumulate in the body and have a negative impact.
yeah, a lot of the info is definitely shared between health care practitioners, but I don't think they could access his records from our pediatrician (especially on short notice) so they had to take my word that "we're good".
okay big guy. I'm just trying to keep my energetic boy from bumping his head on everything and needing a re-visit to the ER.
I'm fine with blood, have done my own surgeries before (on chickens, rats, removed bot fly larvae, etc) so my disposition is pretty strong. I've also had a 6 month old baby that died- but yes, I flipped out for that.
My boy is sweet and kind, but also a fucking warrior that takes a hit and keeps on going (he once smashed his finger and half his nail came off and he just did the "ehhh" like Peter Griffin skinning his knee once and then went about his day), and I am in no way concerned about his masculinity. I don't think a little kid being confident that he is unconditionally loved will be an issue.
I have these things called steri-strips but I don't think I can put them on the stitches. My friends and I almost just left the hospital and were going to do the steri-strips because of how little blood there was, but the gash was really deep so I didn't want to fuck around.
They don't think he had a concussion because he did not lose consciousness, and did not vomit. Honestly though, the CAT scans are poison machines so I'm kinda glad they left it at that and didn't do unnecessary procedures.
They do burrito-wrap them for the stitches, but my kid seriously impressed the heck out of me for staying so calm. I'm glad I was able to keep my cool and be there to comfort him through it, but I'm giving him all due credit for doing awesome.
His story is cute, he was going to hug his 2 year old friend and they both lost their balance and fell. He loves very intensely I guess, like his parents :)
yeah, he sliced his foot this summer and would not be dissuaded from getting in the frog pond daily, even though our 100 year old septic system may trickle off into it through the field >.<
