Likely these robots can be remotely operated and are used by AP and management like a drone to spy on customers and employees at eye level / check the shelf and stock.
Once it detects a hazard like it has here (a tiny scrap of paper will cause it to lock up, markings in the floor, and apparently large black man will trigger this sensor) it needs to be reset or it will not move.
There is actually a reset button located on Marty’s back which will reset him, and if you pick up the trash or just usher him away he will likely stop making that annoying announcement.
You can also stick your hand out in front of him or touch him and he will freeze and go opposite direction to avoid obstacles.
They also have a set path or track that they go about up and down each isle, but like I said I think the sole purpose was an automated “helper bot” which wireless drone control/viewing.
They also have scanners and can scan shelves and out of stocks.
I hate the cutsie eyes, masks, costumes, and posters they put on it.
What’s next? Takes your temperature? Facial AI? Vaccine Bot? Scan your passport bot? Take all the work bot?
