Moreover, Trump thinks Iran has been trying to assassinate him to get even for the murder of Soleimani. Add to that the Houthis' attacks on global shipping and this becomes predictable. Iran wants to make the US pay for remaining in the Middle East, supporting Israel, and propping up shitty Gulf states. And certainly there are no shortage of deep state swamp creatures encouraging Trump.
