That's amazing, and I don't doubt it for a minute. Some people can just do that. I believe there's definitely a psychic connection between humans and animals we don't understand but should. Rupert Sheldrake discussed this in his book "The Sense of Being Stared At", which is based thousands of personal anecdotes of pet owners. One I remember is a cat owner who hadn't seen her cat in several days and was worried it had got into an accident. She stood at her back door thinking about her cat, wondering where it was. The cat crept out behind some foliage and gave her a look as if to say "I'm here, don't worry" and walked back behind cover. The owner figured the cat was just taking some "me time" for a few days but didn't want her human to worry.
Another book of his that left a huge impression on me was "Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home". It describes hundreds of different experiments he conducted with pet owners. The title rather says it all. He said the results of the experiments showing a strong bond between pets and their owners were "statistically significant".
