Earlier this year I was relieved of numerous responsibilities and unregimented time made itself abundant.
When the skies were dark I began the experiment by seeing how long I could stay up and what cycle I would end up in.
I found that I began gravitating toward staying awake 18 hours and sleeping 10 or 12.
However, I later took a more freestyle approach laying my head down and closing my eyes any time I felt like it and the following pattern emergant:
Sleep 5-9 hours. Function 7 hours. Sleep 4-5 hours. Function 18 hours. Repeat.
I am seeking an ultimate sleep cycle as it has been long apparent to me the sun cycle is unoptimal for our biology. Once I have found something resembling such a sleep cycle I believe there is a way to implement it so it can fit with the standard sun cycle.
I like the idea but set cycles of any kind dont make sense.
Some days I'm physically exhausted. Need sleep to restore body. Other times I can be mentally exhausted and need rest for the Deep Sleep cycle.
So then the lengths of these rests could differ greatly if I use the get out of bed when I feel well rested. Aka only possible on days off.
Typically my sleep schedule goes through it's rotation of having me up 3 or 4 hours early and getting to bed right after work to shifting back around to not being able to get to sleep with 5 hours til work alarm.
I have tried biphasic cycle before to mixed results. The split schedule trying to keep to 7-9ish hours total.
I dont think it's worth trying to force a perfect system. With work constraints in place I have to work within what I can and when I want to be awake or able to go out shopping. Some nice midnight to 5am isolation reading a book and exercising before work etc...
