I think there should be observer duty like jury duty. The public should be in the prisons. Felons can't vote in most states, and the people who can vote are voting on a system they can't see. Of course it's broken.
Let's broaden this. There should be observer duty over every performance of government. No one is going to like bring your citizen into work day but we should be seeing everything they do.
