There is no good, cheap way to fix that. I guess you could just cut one of the slabs parallel leaving like a two inch gap to insert a filler piece. It would be noticeable and a tough cut to get right. She'll probably just have to eat shit and hire a pro. You never cut the expensive stuff yourself unless you know what the fuck you're doing. It isn't floor trim ffs.
