Hey guys. We're back.

Chat has been disabled again as someone found a way to abuse it and crash the server. For the time being, registration has been blocked on VPNs which are being used to attack the site. This is a temporary solution. With each attack we get stronger and they have to spend more of their time coming up with another way to succeed. It's clear this person has a legit hatred for what voat stands for. Which only encourages me to keep going. It wouldnt be voat without downtime, but I want to be clear, unlike voat.co this site is not going anywhere. As long as I am alive I will work on keeping this site up and going.

After looking around a bit, it looks like this person leaked one of their legit IPs. Now here's a question to all you people paranoid about your IPs, what do I do with it now?

My guess is either my flooding the server with more traffic than it could handle at once, or the chat protocol doesn’t sanitize input for potential code execution. My guess is the former, a crude DDOS.

Most people are aware how fucked the site is at a technical level, I am aware of the security vulnerabilities but considering I'm using a stock android phone right now any privacy checks would basically be redundant

You should never expect a host to be secure anyways, it's foolish to operate like they are.

I get the feeling it's goons from poal, they have a weird hate boner against Voat.

Honestly it's really weirding me out, were a private forum with about 30~ active daily users, this place is such an infinitesimally small blip in the giant universe of the internet that it's not only astonishing that we are noticed at all, but that literally within a week of opening the site is already experiencing spam bots and network attacks from people dedicated to doing so almost as a full time job.

I just can't imagine wasting away in life like that, whoever is doing this is a truly sad person.
