Is double -declutching the answer? Yet to try on my 1 yo car with crunching gear.

submitted by paul_neri to AskUpgoat 4.3 yearsMar 18, 2021 23:00:29 ago (+3/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

My relatively new car (still under warranty) has developed a quirk. To shift gears from second to third I need to be going slowly i.e. not peak out the revs for that gear. This is proving a bit of a pain but is manageable.

Q1 - do you think double declutching would solve the problem? Yes I will try next time I'm out and about (once a fortnight - I'm more a cyclist).
Q2 - would you complain to the dealer and say it's a defect needing to be fixed under the warranty?

Thank you and god save the Queen.

If it's still under warranty, make them take care of it.

Yes, definitely complain to the dealer.

First: fuck you for being a cyclist
Two: you probably cant double clutch because of a gate thats in place to prevent grinding. Can you float into gear?

Thanks bro, appreciate the lurv. Yet to try declutching but everything's fine provided I'm not travelling "fast" as in normal fast for second gear. So essentially I'm getting into third asap from first which probably isn't good for the engine as the revs haven't built up. It's more a pain in the neck than anything because it means you can't peak the revs in second gear as you'd normally do and you must remember to get into third gear quickly. As for floating the gear, if I'm going too fast it doesn't want to "float" into third and I need to force it a bit which results in crunching. Second gear floats like a feather into third if I go the right (slow) speed. Anyway...I'm booked into the garage for 8 April 2021 to see what the experts think. Thanks. PS get a bike and lose some weight.

jumping from first to third wont hurt anything and can be fun. get the rpms up and then let them drop as you shift, it's all about timing. unless you can peddle the speed limit get off the road fag

Meghan what are you doing on Voat? Thought you'd be at your pilates class in downtown LA. No one has any sympathy for you - poor little rich girl!

Oh that is such a mean, bitter and twisted comment! My trabant has 8,000 kms on the clock!
