Four years ago I said "fuck it" and went home. I snagged a job driving a roll off dumpster truck, and scored a $15K a year pay raise for doing it. The only reason why there is a "driver shortage" is that they are still paying the same wages now that they were in the early 90's. That is why most OTR jobs are now held by people who are painfully dumb, and don't speak much English. There's no driver shortage. There is a shortage of qualified and experienced drivers who are willing to work for starvation wages.
With hazardous materials you have to account for evey drop and minor infractions result in serious fines. Sanchez hauling and disposal is largely unregulated and if you dump the load in the river? That obviously never happens.

Canada claims we have a Truckdriver shortage as well. The governements solution to the problem? Make it more difficult to get a truck driving license. It now costs about $10000 to get an AZ license in ontario.
