He's owned and flown some amazing and magnificent birds, and despite his rather advanced age, he maintains his pilot's license and still flies occasionaly, despite having sold his gorgeous last plane [some WW2 trainer thing, it was magnificent and I was so looking forward to mooching a flight out of him aboard that, but alas, it was not to be thanks to just how long a flight it is from where he is in Canadia now to where we are, damn near almost to mexico]. neither of those things are true either. go to the apple store. google 'aircraft navigation' while youre at it google 'drunk pilots' - extremely common for private pilots in non glass cockpits to use ipads, mobile phones, stand alone GPS units with tracking. And they make just as many phone calls as anyone else. Glass cockpits fail from time to time. Glass cockpits generally dont have room for backup analogue equipment. So what do you think they use to navigate. Usually simultaneously so if one fails they dont have to fuck around with the other (this is called being ahead of your aircraft)
