A lot of young people are brought into that part of the park, and it begs the conclusion a tragedy is likely to occur while there is no barrier to ppl falling off of the walkway, that includes cyclists, dogs and runners. I would urge the BCC to erect a suitable barrier to go the full length of the walkway as a matter of urgency.

Hello Mr Lord Mayor,
I would like draw to bring to your attention that the concrete bike and walkway at the bottom of New Farm Park seen in the image is unfenced and unguarded, thus there is a sheer drop from the walkway to the rocks and at high tide the river below.
A lot of young people are brought into that part of the park, and it begs the conclusion a tragedy is likely to occur while there is no barrier to prevent ppl from falling off of the walkway, that includes cyclists, dogs and runners.
There is another unguarded drop behind the Powerhouse Theater at the western end of the Park, I know because I nearly rode my bike into it, if similarly unguarded drops were left on any construction or mining job Australia wide, whoever left them that way would be sacked on the spot.
In the missive I emailed to the BCC May 3 I urged the BCC to erect a suitable barrier to go the full length of the walkway as a matter of priority.
The second reply illustrates the low priority toward public safety that exists within the BCC infrastructure, I believe you should step in and see that appropriate fencing is installed, as well the whole situation leaves the BCC open to massive reparations under law should a tragedy occur which we say is inevitable.
Martin Timothy, Brisbane.

Brings to mind the death trap at the southern end of the Story Bridge, ppl brought it to the attention of the BCC fifty yrs ago that cyclists who hit top speed on the down side were being injured crashing into the wall .. it took a fatal accident by an Austrian cyclist in the 1980's before things were changed.
The low priority on safety within the BCC ranks, is echoed in the fact that this submission is not viewable on the BCC Facebook front page. https://www.facebook.com/BrisbaneCityCouncil/posts/10158151554772709?comment_id=10158151556282709¬if_id=1620029056812202¬if_t=feed_comment&ref=notif.
