The specific killing method and what triggers it. I'm wondering how they gained this ability. I know that they can accept foreign queens. The way to get them to accept them is to keep the new queen near them, but shielded from their kill response.
I also read about how they know about a bad queen who mostly give birth to what amounts to niggers.
But I don't know how they acquired this kill response.
It happens to be the same method some bees employ to kill hornets invading their nest. But there are also bees who do not know about this and will just get all killed by a couple of hornets.
The way they got the trait is a massive amount of bee ancestor's hives existed with variable reproduction methods. Most all of those ancestor hives went extinct. The sum total of benefits from this reproduction behavior allowed these types of bees to survive in their niche and similar niches and continue reproducing through many generations.

What are "variable reproduction methods"? Killing their queen isn't even a reproduction behavior. Only the queen is able to reproduce. None of the other bees have this ability. Not sure how they survive after killing their queen, either.
Variable reproduction methods are the countless attempts at reproduction that failed. Killing the queen is a viable reproductive strategy, because only the queens that produce unfit offspring are targeted, while the queens producing viable offspring that aid the function of the hive live on to produce more viable offspring.
But how would bees learn this behavior? It's fairly complicated. First they have to identify unfit queens and then they have to all collaborate to kill her. Neither is trivial.
The identify part seems to relate to the smell of the nigger bees. But how did they go from identifying nigger bees to killing their queen? It's not like this is random. They can reliably identify and solve the problem. But how did they acquire this ability?
Isn't biochemical actuation trigger just a fancy way of saying they have this ability? I don't understand how a corrupted feedback loop would play any role in this. If the behavior is learned and then inherited there must have been bees at some point that didn't have the ability to smell nigger bees out and couldn't action a coup on their queen. So how exactly did they first figure out that nigger bees are a problem that is solved by killing their queen?

This has refreshed my memory, but doesn't answer how the trait developed. It just concludes that they kill the queen as soon as they smell the nigger bees. Of course this behavior is advantageous for them, but it's not like disadvantageous behavior wouldn't be observed in animals all the time, most egregious in panda bear.
So I'm really wondering how bees figured this all out. And how they are able to unite for this cause. I think we could learn a lot from them, if we knew how this trait developed.
