I had a sunroof open but not close. A quick jewtube search later, I was ripping into the ceiling and cranking the sunroof closed by hand with an alan wrench. Wasn't easy, but I saved myself some $1,200 by doing it.

I left it closed and left the switch disconnected so it can't happen again. I suspect it's a failed switch (I already had to replace the window buttons on another vehicle) so being the same manufacturer I figured it was that. Until I find a replacement I won't even mess with it. I don't need the sunroof, it's more of a luxury.

You can buy an analyzer for less than a hundred bucks that will tell you a whole lot about what is wrong and even tell you what part to buy.

I used to do the same thing until one year the gears (I think?) inside my door broke when I tried to roll down my window when it was frozen shut. Ended up costing me way more to fix than an electric window would have.

Learn to fix that shit. It's not magic.

They manufacture new cars in a way that they're more difficult to maintain yourself than the older ones, which used to be built with common sense in mind. They're deliberately more difficult to take apart

[ - ] SparklingWiggle 0 points 4 yearsMay 20, 2021 19:34:00 ago (+0/-0)

Bullshit. You can buy a little device that usually tells you exactly what's wrong. All the extra shit is not designed to make them harder to maintain, this is proved by the fact that 300k miles is the new "that's about the end of life on that car." instead of 60k miles.

My wife once destroyed her engine in a new BMW by driving thru water. Hydrolocked... $23k. It took State Farm a month to decide if they were going to cover it.

Her story of driving thru a few inches of water at 30mph didn't add up. The next time it rained hard, I drove my truck to where she fucked her car. It was as deep as this video.

I had to jump a car once that did this, they'd be a lot better off if they just slowed the fuck down. I told the guy he was driving way too fast, he denied it. When he opened his hood for the jump his battery was covered in water. He was humbled and inststed on paying me.

Nice to see you made it over here, be sure to visit

Why so many BMW's? Why do they all seem blue? Is it the same car over and over again?

[ - ] Wahaha 1 point 4 yearsMay 19, 2021 10:32:45 ago (+1/-0)

Can someone explain why this kills the cars?

This is the most likely explanation. Electrical short is a secondary explanation. Ever see rednecks with huge scoops going up the side of their hood? This is why.

I'm not hating, but does your home also have a trailer hitch?

Essentially it is a scoop, for air, but yes the correct term is snorkel

[ - ] Deathstalker 0 points 4 yearsMay 19, 2021 13:22:19 ago (+0/-0)

The fix is too pull the spark plugs and turn the engine over squirting the water out.

[ - ] germ22 2 points 4 yearsMay 19, 2021 13:51:35 ago (+2/-0)

If you are lucky and don't have bend rods or valves, this would work.

Based on the other replies, I found this a very helpful explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yehz2gUnNe0

You don't want to go too fast - there is an optimum speed where you push a bow wave that keeps water away from your intake.

The air intake is right up front for efficiency.

[ - ] SparklingWiggle 1 point 4 yearsMay 19, 2021 20:39:02 ago (+1/-0)

It would be so easy to make the intake shut on contact with water. I should make that, become rich, and fund mercenaries.

That's somewhere in Europe.

That road needs to be built better. Maybe a drain. I'm not an engineer.

Driving your car through that much water is unbelievably stupid. These niggers need to buy a $80 pump and clear that puddle.
