I think the way it works is, if a Predator sees you kicking ass, you gain it’s respect, but that makes him want your head on the wall even more.

If a Predator is getting slapped around by a xenomorph, and you jump into the fray, you’ve now chopped off a bit of his own self respect, and the only way to even the score is by entering into a blood oath type of situation until they save you in return, and then the scales are balanced. You’re brethren after that. They mark you so that other Predators know you’re in the club, even though the chances of ever meeting another Predator is slim and now you’re undateable because this monster scarred your face. They will also grant you parting gifts of advanced alien hand weapons that if the government even found out you had it, they would kill you and take it to their hollowed out, nerd filled mountain.
