AFAIK UFS 3.1 is more efficient, faster and cheaper but Apple is vertically integrated and designs its own chips, this shifts the incentives.

As try said it's not really the best option, my hunch is M1 was already in the pipeline and sharing the storage subsystem with the laptop chips made more sense overall.

HOLY SHIT is that fast. newer models are even faster from Apple.

Do not forget : fast nvme NAND ram eats up battery and creates heat if you use it a lot. Apple probably has a 2nd flashram layer of colder slower storage used when a phone feels idle or feels like its not being benchmarked. The 2nd flashram layer of colder slower storage might help triple the battery life, but still allow benchmarks and games to let apple dominate.

Others may copy apple design in future though. Others may do this speed trick.

Notice that the charts I show, show UFS storage 25% as fast for writes as apple deices in that chart.

Samsung Galaxy S6 is a genuine real UFS device, and though fast, is only a pathetic 41 speed vs apple getting 163

163 is 3.97 times faster... 400% faster !!! 4 times faster for Apple iphone6s than UFS Samsung Galaxy S6.

UFS is 4 times slower for writes than apples offerings in some years.

No, OP asked about storage, you're desperate to make this about CPU performance after I pointed out you're referring to a 5+ year old phone.

And you can't show tests from an iPhone exceeding an UFS 3.0 phone while UFS 3.1 devices are pushing 1.6 / 1.1 GB.

I showed you storage benchmarks for the S20, prove me wrong with concrete numbers or keep kvetching about muh CPU "scores" which can be spun a hundred different ways, or find some other stupid special editions instead of best-selling models to compare.
