Yes, but the clout it kicked was massive, media reported about it, important politician started "distancing" themself publicly. Like always the left did the work of free promotion.

No that group is being silenced in more sinister and dystopian ways, prohibition of their symbols, legal (and thus financial) harassment, boots kicking in doors despite everyone involved knowing nothing will come out of it.

Is it? The whole point of public events like this is to make the participants feel like they're part of an unstoppable political wave, and their opponents feel insignificant and miniscule by comparison.

Counterprotests and sabotage help kill that feeling on both sides.

Even if they don't abandon their beliefs, demoralising them and reminding them that their behaviour is not universally approved will make them less enthusiastic to spread said beliefs. In effect forcing them back in the closet.

It's also a morale boost to the non brainwashed and makes them a little more likely to vocalise opposition.

This is the reason communist regimes crack down on even the most minor public opposition as hard as they do: They know that if even a few people criticise the regime and get away with it, it'll make the remainder more brave. And if they ever realise they're the majority the regime is fucked.
