Apparently cold showers are a proven health benefit, so I started taking them. Though, you mustn't cramp up but fully relax your body and have them last for at least three minutes.
Improving my health while saving on hot water seems like a win-win situation. So far I see no downside.
Very cold Showers were mandatory at Oxford University in Dormatories until early 1980s. Hundreds of years of non-heated water.
Cambridge University also forced cold water on students until a little prior, for undergrads.
I can't find any simple references to my facts online, but I am not incorrect. Oxford was the very last major university to offer hot water to students.
Something I've picked up on in the Navy, taking showers at night. It saves your bed sheets, and you aren't on the same shower schedule as most folks, freeing up spots and water for your usage. This works even better if you are on night shift.

Personally? I'm only a week in and noticed more resilience to stress and increased willpower. I feel less distracted would be another way to put it and get more stuff done.
Have to find out whether my immune system improves for real. There's also the claim for weight loss, which I can't comment on, since I already got normal weight.
Well you're basically training your willpower and resilience to stress by committing to daily cold showers. You could probably do the same thing by walking on fire or just working out first thing in the morning.
At some point you will see diminishing returns from cold showers, but you will have understood the key to success, the reason why cold showers worked: one must simply "embrace the suck".
I hear its a very popular saying among navy seals, heard lots of very successful and good-looking people use that phrase or variants of it: "Everyday you must do at least one thing that you hate". Checkout Nick Bare ex-marine triathlon guy or David Coggings some motivational ex-navyseal.
The general idea is right though. I succeed at work by doing things that suck, are hard, and are despised. I thusly create that which others avoided due to their own unwillingness to progress forward. Consequently, you rise to the top.
Cool, thanks for the response. I remember seeing a movie a long time ago about Henry the 8th and Thomas Cromwell. When Cromwell started doing his own shit and not being supportive I remember Henry saying something about not having the strength to take a cold bath, and that he basically needed Cromwell to be the guy that kept him level headed and made him take cold baths. Paraphrasing obviously, but this makes more sense after having you say your personal benefits.
The only benefit that I am aware of and have personally experienced is increased free testosterone. Beyond that, I'm not sure.
When you get cold to the point of shivering, the hypothalamus releases Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) which, in turn, increases secretion of luteinizing hormone from the pituitary gland, ultimately resulting in an increase of testosterone production by the testicles.
I can confidently state, without a doubt, that this practice (along with targeted nutrition) changed my life. I had acne well into my thirties and was beginning to wonder whether I'd have it my whole life. Shortly after beginning the protocol, the acne disappeared abruptly.
Additionally, I became an absolute beast in bed. I'd never had problems there in the past, e.g. stopped counting at 100 o's with one of my ex-gfs and this felt different; like I was an Olympic god just completely destroying that pussy. The most succinct way I could put it is that I immediately understood why the lion roars when he ejaculates when I spontaneously and uncharacteristically (up to that point) did it myself. My wife definitely noticed a difference.
Another thing that started happening is that I started getting a lot more attention from women, from subconscious body language all the way up to overt (and even obnoxious) flirting, which sounds great and mostly is, unless it's not. A lot of women are gross.
Anyway, 10/10 would recommend. Hardest part, besides not being such a pussy and doing it, is getting cold water in places where it's warm in the summer. That can be a challenge. Ice helps.
Important part is to do this every day, first thing when you wake up BEFORE YOU PISS, UNTIL YOU PISS in the shower after you get cold enough (I suppose, if this is gross to you, you could always jump out and stand there all wet and dripping pissing into the toilet... your call) and every night, last thing before you go to bed, again, until you piss. It takes real discipline, not to mention the occasional planning and ingenuity on your part to account for travel and other unusual circumstances and I can definitely say, for my part, it's been a total win.
Not sure the health benefits are true but it is refreshing afterwards. To wake up in the early morning and turn on only the cold water is tough to do. It's similar to jumping in cold water although you can turn the faucet off. In the summer time the water is not as cold from the pipes so it's not as bad, but during the winter time, it's tough. I use to do this but only for like seconds. Plus you could get sick. What I do now is take a normal hot shower and then at the end crank off the hot water to get shocked by the cold water for about 20 seconds.

I have been taking cold showers for a few years now. I think it's great. My hot water tank has been off for a few years, saves me a few bucks a month in electricity. It's a test and training of your will power every time you shower. Saves electricity, and water. Increases your immune system Increases blood circulation reduces stress helps with weight loss
To start a daily cold shower routine i suggest starting cold showers in the hot summer months. A cold shower will be super refreshing. And then just keep it up. As the weather gets colder, your resistance to cold showers increases, and by the time winter comes around you'll be used to cold showers.
Been taking cold showers for about a year now. One thing I’ve noticed is I’m a lot more tolerable of colder temperatures. I don’t shiver at all. I work outside and I wear a cut off no problem. I can handle 32° F and raining but that’s the coldest it ever gets where I live. I haven’t tested it in snow.
I have eczema, and it generally flares up with a hot shower. In the summer I always do a cold shower, in winter I have been a bitch, but this year I will go cold all the way.
Hot water is also bad for your testosterone, sperm, etc.
