I stole books as a child so I could read them. I learned my lesson when my father caught me, but he did buy me an encyclopedia set after my punishment (I had to work for the library AND book store to pay them back). Good luck teaching your kid that way today.

It evolved into me seeking out the verbodden knowledge books that people didn’t want me to read. When I was 14 I got the internet and immediately got my hands on the anarchists cookbook. My friends and I blew up every fucking log in the woods nearby that summer.

I can confidently state that I could trap a section of woods and no one would know until it’s too late.

Reading did that. No one else in my friend group had this knowledge without me. My friends didn’t read.
