Have you had experience with negative vigilantism, or read about abuses recently?
Seeing how easily manipulated the horde is, lately, has made me concerned about it; I can't forget, however, that the mob was right with that guy Leo Frank's that the ADL was formed over. He did murder a girl, he did implicate and frame-up an essentially illiterate old man. The mob hung Leo, and good thing.
We've seen how ineffective the criminal law system, heck any law system, is with regards to the rich, the well-connected, or members of protected classes are. I can forsee a time that Pedophiles get the same special status as fags. We only have vigilantism as a recourse, and it CERTAINLY works well as a deterrent.

I'm not 100% on this, but I'm not a fan of the criminal justice system as it is. I've been steamrolled by vindictive prosecutors and robbed by police that lied effortlessly and unchallenged on the stand.
I had a buddy that had a truck that hit a well connected former CPS worker, then family court prosecution that took his kids away for mostly political reasons
- they're a happy family now, after an ugly fight with the system. CPS guys' political career ended when he had a nasty accident with a driverless truck. This was a decade ago.
- point being, there was no justice until a fluke accident balanced the scales.
