Grandma clorox bleached the stainless steel sink, and completely sanitized it, to make clean-up easy -- then prepared the chicken in the sink with spices

Mom clorox bleached the chicken, itself. And then put spices on the chicken

Are you supposed to use bleach? I don't exactly wash chicken. I pat it try, and I just cook it hot enough to kill anything.

No. Surface bacteria will die anyway. Some rinse under hot water, or use vinegar, but now studies show the less you fuck with chicken, the better. This is because splashing water on chicken and touching it actually causes more ecoli and salmonella problems, as now it's not contained to just the chicken.

Pay attention to what it touches when raw (cutting board, hands, sink), and make sure nothing else touches those areas until you can clean it. The chicken, itself, cooks anyway, particularly on the surface.

Food poisoning happens when you touch it raw and then touch something else that you later eat. Sometimes chicken gets undercooked on the inside, but washing wasn't going to prevent that, anyway.

This correct advice. Cooking will kill bacteria. Washing only spreads it round the kitchen.

Jesus fucking christ. I avoid using extra containers when I cook so as not to create extra washing up. But it has never once occurred to me to do it in the sink. On the bright side any of her children that survive will have immune systems of steel.

Not retarded, use a small amount of dishwasher detergent when washing fruits and vegetables (make sure you rinse properly)

If a pesticides is designed not to wash off the first time it rains a little, it's not going to wash off when you sprinkle some water on it either
