A few years ago I met one that rattled after I started to step on it.

I wonder if the shills will come by and deny this and tell us it's a psyop to make us sterile like ivermectin. There is no rattle.

I remember learning that when I was in elementary school. I found it endlessly fascinating.

What I want to know now is how it's actually formed. How does it the tail "grow" into interlocking sections like that if none of them are directly connected? Is it formed as a solid blend of bone and soft tissue supports, with the soft tissue rotting away once the bone is fully hardened?

See my comment to totalniggerdeath's response to you.

I think it's made of keratin, the actual segments aren't very hard. Not sure how it grows exactly, though.

It was always my understanding that it formed a new segment each time the snake shed its skin from the shedding itself.

Oh, so each new "section" is held in place by the old skin and freed upon molting? That makes a lot of sense... and only deepens my amazement at nature.

I shot one in half before I got in my truck the other morning. Was just heading in to work and he was right outside my front door. 9mm hollowpoint whooped his ass.

That is amazing.
