Because they're told to lie constantly. Look at most of the "dating advice" going around. Lie about your age,lie about your income,lie about your social status,lie about your STD test,lie about your fertility,lie about your relationship goals.

People think they're garbage so they have to lie to make themselves seem "worthy". And that's the biggest lie of all.

Well I wouldnt disagree. But the question was "Why the fuck is it so hard for people to be honest with each other?" and not "Why do people lie to each other?"
People not speaking the truth doesnt equate to telling lies. Silence and deceit often have the same reasons anyhow. The ultimate origin being fear.

You have to be honest with yourself first. Harder then it sounds. You then have to grow some balls, learn some etiquette, and be prepared for stupidity.
Usually all of this takes practice.
