I don't use faceberg but all the normies in my life do.

A bunch of them have been hitting me up all day for inane shit -- the usual "How are you Splooge? Still working at blah blah blah" type stuff.

I was wondering what the fuck was going on, especially since I don't regularly talk to most of these fucks, and we don't ever hang out or anything.

And then one of them mentions that faceberg (and all related services they own) are down. And suddenly it all makes sense.

They're so addicted to the constant dopamine hit that comes with quick repeated bursts of approval that, deprived of it for hours like this, they start desperately seeking it out anywhere they can.

Pathetic.

I don't give a fuck, and am happy about it. I hope that their infrastructure burns to the ground.

Unfortunately it seems to be something as simple as a bad BGP configuration...ie they'll be back sooner than later and whatever they needed to hide will be gone.

This is what happens when you caged social butterflies. See,they preform a function of tying people together. They keep people in touch. They're the backbone of the local social system.

But that function can be subverted. They can be turned into gossip mongers and gatekeepers. And now,with covid locking a lot of them down,their only social outlet is social media. And when that's gone? They look for interaction any way they can. They NEED it.

The "dopamine hit" is a myth. Everyone needs social interaction. We need someone to talk to. It doesn't matter if they agree or not. Just talking to someone,anyone can keep you sane.

That's why we're here. We need to speak freely. We don't need agreement,simply the right to speak our mind and get honest responses. They're on Facebook because they're so willing to bend to the rules to get that social interaction.

That's what they're really selling. Access to each other.
