Typically...but a part of the new bill is to tax unrealized gains. So if the stocks I own gains 100k, even if I dont sell the stock, I owe taxes on the "profit." It's an absolute BS premise to steal more wealth.
And I dont think the reverse is true where if I make a loss on stocks or a house, that wont offset my gains. Probably, idk.

US citizens with residence status can claim unemployment benefits in the UK.
The US passed a bill years ago to close tax loopholes, so any income not taxed abroad, gets taxed (quite a good law to close billionaire tax Dodgers...in principle)

As the UK gov is obviously not going to tax its own unemployment benefits.
Becoming unemployed in the UK results in a US tax bill.
Well, in reference to the recent proposed bill, you could get credit for the unrealized loss which could balance out the gains, but there are never any checks for losses.
