You know what I'd do? I'd just set up an mp3 player in the game and you could play your own music that you already paid for. Even integrate it into an in game radio with commentary and fake ads. No licensing fees or anything. And the game would lower the music volume when there's character dialogue.

Yeah, they made my GTA 5 (online too)NOT even work in single player any more. Discontinued my account or something. NO WAY to contact anyone about it. USED To be (Vice City) you could finagle your way through most missions (sometimes not killing ANYONE). THen they got totalitarian (juvenile) where EVERYONE HAD to suffer through the missions. GTA 5 had a skip "feature", not NEARLY as cool as finagling through the mission with your IMAGINATION. I thought it was a FEATURE, maybe they got fired, and it was NAILED down that one MUST complete the missions.

Licensing is a nightmare for many things.

Remember microsoft pinball? They couldn't get the license for the music to keep it in win7, so it never reappeared.

The US DVD set of the tv show Quantum Leap also contains different songs from the UK DVD set and also the original tv run, because the licensing costs were too high.

I'm sure there are more examples.

Technology and access are always in a struggle.

The royalty fight started well before the big 2007 writers strike. Everyone complained about the meager royalties for DVD and other digital sales, and suddenly everyone gets a bigger slice on everything.

A very old story.

What other industry offers continual payments for performed work? Imagine if your first grade teacher wanted a royalty for every word read or written LOL. Then second grade, then third grade, etc.

Maybe AI will fix it all. AI can do all the coding, writing, music production, and graphics.
