It seems like a tracked vehicle would be good for this.

White people are the best :)

The amount of torque lost over the length of those driveshafts would dimish the ability to move forward if upscaled to life size, due to the weight of the vehicle.

Probably. This guy doesn't seem to care about that though, his entire channel is just fucking around with lego tecnic.

A clever way of explaining to minors above midwit IQ, design concepts behind engineering problems.

10/10 post.

LEGOs come a long way, it used to be a Meccano substitute for the NPC kids, they needed some shiny blocks to build with and feel special

I like how he incorporates some of the early designs that were used in RL for ferrying cargo/ people / vehicles over rivers/ canyons with that carriage under the top beam thing to the other side .

If I'm not mistaken that's "brick experiment channel" on youtube. He does some amazing stuff.

If you like that video you'll probably love this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwHHErfX9hI

That was awesome.

Don't ridicule someone who's putting his brains and hands to good use, so fucking what if his designs seemed mechanically exaggerated...or should he have his hands on a gamer counsel?
IT'S FUCKING BULLSHIT THAT PEOPLE ARE MOCKED FOR WHAT THEY CAN DO AND WHAT THEY KNOW.
GOOD POST

If you use a black hand model to make these videos it will automatically get you into harvard

"Hey hans, do you mind not shooting at us while we build a bridge over your trench? We need to get an armoured column through. You do? Ok! I trust you!"

Oh they were though. It's not such an issue anymore but during WW1 there was absolutely an arms race between making trenches too wide for tanks to cross and making tanks long enough to cross them. Tanks went obsolete just because the enemy dug their trenches wider. Others had to be shipped behind the lines and lengthened. That evolution seen in the video happened with real vehicles weighing hundreds of tonnes.

And what did they do when that happened? Air dropped soldiers behind lines

During WW1? I think you have your wars mixed up.

It became very apparent in WW1 that there was a point when a trench would be dug too wide to be useful.

Yes, that's why it was an arms race. They were trying to find a balance between inconveniencing tanks and protecting their troops from artillery.

Tanks never went obsolete, what are you smoking?

I never said they did?

You also aren't taking scale into account at all. If you scale that up to a real size vehicle you can assume the 5cm gap is about 4 feet maybe a bit bigger. At 15cm that's a 12 foot wide trench. That's well over half the length of the overwhelming majority of ww1 tanks. Then you have to consider the tanks were far too heavy as well. If you made one long enough to cross that gap it would collapse the front wall and sink into the trench anyways.

That's nice. But it's perfectly possible to dig your trench 2ft wider so that an FT-17 will get stuck trying to get across and it's crew will have to bail out.

Wahey! Free tank!

Sorry, rereading my comment I can see where we got confused. By "tanks went obsolete" I meant individual tanks, not the overall concept of tanks.

100% engineer made clip. Why do something boring and straightforward when we can make something excessively complicated?

I'm sometimes guilty of that except for artistic modelling. Occasionally I'm working on some really nice details and I zoom out and realise "that's never going to be bigger than a pixel... fuck."
