New data shows suburbs where ‘freedom’ protesters hail from

“The ‘Heat Map’ shows the heaviest concentrations of protesters were from outer suburban areas of Melbourne such as South Morang, Tarneit, Cranbourne, Langwarrin, Werribee and Caroline Springs – although there were protest attendees from all over Melbourne,” Ms Levine said.

That's why the inner city intellectuals sneer.

The lesson is that if you're going to a protest against your government don't carry your cell phone so they can track and identify you for later arrest.

They tried so hard to make it sound like it's mostly karen soccer-moms. But then you see the heatmap and it's pretty much everyone.

Data from devices such as mobile phones found in the area on the day was compiled into a heat map to determine where protesters had come from and what type of Australians they were.

Idiots. Imagine bringing a government tracking device to an illegal protest.

So how did they come up with this data? Tracking everyone's cellphones?

Yes, exactly. But you need to understand that EVERYONE does it now. Even stores use Bluetooth to see how many people, what area of the store is most busy and ofcourse how many/who are repeat visitors/shoppers.
They can then correlate their BT mac address and wifi mac address list with other stores snd services which exist for gathering and analyzing this raw data.

Yep.

Even "tracking" makes it sound more active and intrusive than it has to be. People voluntarily surrender that information. Personally I need a smartphone for a few things, but I don't carry it around with me.

The largest demographic, around 30 per cent of protesters, were people focused on success, career and family, who were naturally big spenders and enjoyed “cultured living”.

However, communities that were overrepresented included people who embraced a conventional family life, as well as those who were further down the socio-economic ladder and struggling to make ends meet.

In other words, people from all economic classes.

When will protesters learn to bring/use a burner phone or an old android phone stripped of its ID info or at least getting and bringing and using a Faraday bag....
Or at least run one of thise android apps which generate fake Bluetooth and wifi IDs and dirty the info pool.

Faraday bags! Everyone should have them and use them.
