Not a one, visited an aunt out in wilmington and we took a trip into town and found out they had a holocaust museum attached or next door to the naval base I was maybe 11 but I remember thinking how dreadful and boring the architecture in the building was and seeing the hall of mundane exhibits and not understanding why they spent so much money on such a large and boring museum that is filled with copies of pictures and garbage. Then I was disgusted at how they just had a big fuck off giftshop right in the middle of the place, what sort of dumbass gifts does a holocaust museum sell? Toblerones, chintzy made in china keychains of the statue of liberty and 9/11 memorabilia, models of US WW2 jeeps and planes, postcards, the spielberg holocaust foundation vhs box set, a bunch of educational material on the holocaust, and schindler's list. I remember asking my aunt if she thought they had a plastic keychain modeled after that pile of childrens shoes, she was not amused.
I remember thinking, Why the fuck would the nazis save the shoes if they were just gonna exterminate these kids? If the jews were s9 disgusting would they really give those shoes to german kids? Obviously not, they sat in the camp throughout the war, almost all the shoes had busted buckles or damage, it makes me think these were just shoes the soviets dug out of a dump in the area or stole of poor kids.
The hair is the next retarded thing, Why is there a gigantic case of mostly blond straight hair? 6 or 7 feet high packed with hair? Why? The nazis sure as shit wouldn't have saved the hair as a keepsake, the museum claimed they shaved heads to demoralize and dehumanize their victims, are you for real? They shave your head in jail and the army because y'all might have lice.
I got so bored of the museum's nonsense so fast, my aunt was so mad that I wasn't on some sort of spiritual journey that we just had to leave.
I think the thing that pissed her off most was a comment I made, I don't remember the exact prompt she gave probably something like "the victims are looking down on us" I corrected her and said if they're looking, they're looking up.
I was homeschooled at the time and she worked in the local school system so we probably went ostensibly as a field trip because she knew the place, she had chaperoned a field trip at least once I think.

That or the usual thing in a prison: you turn in your posessions at the gate, then get them back when you leave. The fact that they kept them shows they intended for the inmates to leave. There would be no other purpose in keeping them.
As an aside, I live in Ireland, which was neutral in WW2 and has no real connection to Germany or Israel. One of our first (possibly the first) formal history lessons at age 8 or so was the holocaust. We had a book with around 12 stories from Irish and British history, but somehow the holocaust just had to be in there.
Wish I could find it again, it's probably packed away somewhere.

I remember distinctly, before I woke up to the JQ, being in Amsterdam, right by Westermarkt and the Anne Frank house. For some intuitive reason, I looked at the absurd line leading to it and I sensed the sheep in that line.
