I've started eating off my food/grocery preps exclusively starting today.

submitted by totes_magotes to preppers 3.5 yearsDec 29, 2021 21:57:34 ago (+7/-0)     (preppers)

Two years ago, my groceries cost about, eh, $150 to $175 every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on what I ate, how busy I was, etc.

Today, for 3 to 4 weeks, my grocery bill is anywhere from $300 to $400. This does not include pet food and meat for the pets (I have a puppy and a cat and both get meat and high quality food daily).

Fuck. That.

I have enough groceries to last me a year, give or take, and have been building my stock for the last 4 years with the help of my garden (at 1600 sq. feet). I originally stocked up in case of unemployment and topped that up in the event of a collapse. I'm firmly of the opinion that we're now watching a global collapse in slow motion and that in a year I will have far more pressing concerns than whether or not I should get more groceries.

So, after I came back from visiting family over Christmas, I ordered my final batch of groceries, topping everything up and stocking up pet supplies like a motherfucker. Close to $600. Two years ago, it might have hit $400 and that was only if I added some expensive "luxury" items.

By the way, nearly every store where I live is out of canned cat food of any quality and it's starting to be completely out of stock on chewy.com as well. Sure, they have stock but it's easier to find "out of stock" than "in stock." At least this past week anyway.

Being the time efficient moron that I am, I have my groceries delivered. The first shopper who went for just cat food said they were out. This was Costco. She went asking around and the replies were "We've been waiting and waiting but it's still sitting out in the middle of the ocean!" Cue Biden "I did that" sticker.

If you've been thinking of stocking up your pantry, it's not too late but it will now cost you dearly.

Edit: I've also gone ahead and ordered a few expensive things I've been putting off including a replacement phone (the one I'm using is 6 years old and starting to have hardware problems).

Did you get a degoogled phone?

I also have enough food for a year, but I will continue to store it until shtf

Eating it now is foolish IMO, inflation is not stopping anytime soon, keep stocking while you still can.

I don't foresee the economy holding off a crash much longer. Further, omicron is completely obliterating the vaccinated population (at least if they're not dying, they're getting highly pissed off) and shutting down what's left of the supply lines.

Right now, I have far, far more important things to do with $400 a month. I agree, we're not at a general point where it's that important to switch to food preps (and I still have my emergency "food on the run" preps singled out and not touching those) but what I'm getting ready to start doing is not only extremely expensive but is also a long term and permanent solution to our current problems. Once that solution is in place, my expenses will drop drastically and I can rebuild my stock extremely quickly. In any case, this is one of the scenarios I planned for and my scenario trigger was hit this last month. Financially, this is my "rich" time of the year where I get a lot of income from investments, taxes (I take advantage of certain deductions), bonuses, payouts, work raises, and so on. I will be using this extra lack of payout combined with the extra income to launch me into my next preps. There really is no better time for me to do this and launch into next year financially stronger and more secure and stable.

I did not simply because I use a Motorola phone that has several Moto Mods that are extremely useful to me in general life stuff (including a battery backup mod). Further, I have expensive screen protections that cover replacement costs on the phone and an identical phone means I can screenshot the important numbers and transfer them to the new phone and still take advantage of them. I still lock down services and apps using different apps but you're not going to be the 50 hour talk battery time of the original Moto Z Play. The battery backup mod bumps that to roughly 75 hours of talk or one week on standby.

This is a prepper sub (/prepper), not "covid prove it" (/covidproveit). I'm happy to discuss this but not here. If you have prepping issues, concerns, questions, etc. then you're in the right spot. If not, kindly take it elsewhere and ping me.

I merely followed up on it.

Nothing about that is true.

How's your bug out truck coming along

Better than yours.

And you're done. I have better things to do than to babysit a piece of shit whose only goal is to stir shit and divide people. And it's not even that, it's the repeatedly lying about doing it like it's a joke. There's far more important things to worry about right now. I generally have no problems with someone being a right pain in the ass piece of shit but that's just not going to happen here any more. Take that self-masturbatory shit elsewhere. Literally don't have time for it.

I was like....literally the first person I saw on here pointing out Corony was just the common cold from day one, so I completely understand that it's "not real", but unfortunately it's "real" in terms of how they're successfully using it to, well, destroy western civilization in a few years.

So...you're right...and he's right.

Either way, if people listen closely the "authorities" have admitted it's 99.8 percent survivable across the population -

Isn't that what makes it, literally, the common cold? Same name, same mortality rate, same symptoms...

China is applying more shortages, THey claimed another huge lockdown across Xingjiang. a major distribution centre. And they've been creating blackouts to stall food.

We want to now why we didn't have a revolution when thy started importing more and more foods from China and changed the labeling so it could say "product of" instead of made in any western country. because they just packaged it here from chinky ingredients.

[ - ] totes_magotes [op] 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 30, 2021 08:10:02 ago (+1/-0)

we didn't have a revolution when thy started importing more

Because that's "racist" and "paranoid."

[ - ] fightknightHERO 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 29, 2021 22:05:04 ago (+1/-0)

i also feel like the jewpermarket prices has risen by 10-15%

you definitely feel the inflation, all the lockdown shit, all the gibs, the fucking gibs to both niggers and corporations

it's only 15% pricer now
but i think it's only gonna get worse...

[ - ] totes_magotes [op] 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 29, 2021 22:15:19 ago (+1/-0)

Aye. I make a good income; I'm in the top 9% of the nation and I'm finally getting squeezed. And, as I mentioned to Yarg...whatever the fuck his name is, I have other plans that this will help launch me into.

[ - ] we_kill_creativity 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 30, 2021 14:31:42 ago (+1/-0)

I already knew inflation was going to suck in a big way, but what made it real to me was when I had to restack a pallet of those ad inserts for papers with all their deals and shit...and I kid you not, underneath the store name was the subline "Super deals to help you beat inflation!" I was like...ha! they're actually using the word inflation in their marketing...what a world we live in.

Your phone doesn't have hardware issues,it has software locks.

If this mess has proven anything,it's how much we depend on out of country goods. We traditionally think most of our food comes from local farmers, because, why not? It's right there. What you lose on price of goods, you get back in transport costs. Nope,it's all out of country.

[ - ] totes_magotes [op] 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 30, 2021 11:05:03 ago (+1/-0)

No, it has hardware issues. I do actually know what I'm talking about. Degraded battery life is going to happen on a 6 year old phone. Multiple repairs in the past with a tech that stripped a screwhead means that the only way to continue repairs is to drill the screw out which means a chance of piercing the battery or fucking the board. At that point, a replacement is more cost effective. So I'll thank you to not assume I'm a stupid consumer who doesn't do his research.

Literally no one but uneducated 9th graders or younger think that our food comes local. Not every city has a plant that makes processed food. There aren't farms everywhere and most people haven't seen a farm except maybe in a movie. They know it's not local. They just don't care because they think it'll always be there.

[ - ] Merlynn -2 points 3.5 yearsDec 30, 2021 11:14:45 ago (+0/-2)

Might not be farms where you live, but there are here. Get out of the city once in a while. Where do you think the produce at the farmer's market comes from if there's no farms? And a lot of stores advertise "local produce". If you don't double check, and most people don't,you can be easily fooled.

Your battery isn't dying,it's being throttled. Most of those batteries last over a decade. Which means you either have a bad battery, unlikely,or your company is cutting your battery, which we know they do. All they have to do is change the read out on your battery's power. So instead of saying 80%,it says 40%. And the phone auto shuts down at 0%,even if there's still energy in the battery.

Stop being stupid, you collapsible nigger faggot.

I have so much food stored that if anyone saw it all they'd think I was crazy.
