Unpopular opinion time. Recycling is a lie, and landfills just concentrate the toxic plastic waste. The only actual solution is stopping the companies that produce this shit. Blaming the idiot who throws it on the ground is meaningless bullshit meant to divide people.
If you put that bottle in the garbage, it's still going on the ground, just somewhere else. It's not comparable to shitting in the toilet vs the street, because the toilet water gets treated. Plastic waste just gets dumped on the ground or into a waterway somewhere else.
Garbage cans and collection, for toxic plastic waste, are just a pretend solution to make people's vaginas feel better, when in fact it does literally nothing.
A lot of it hits at the "feel good White people" guilt to get people to toss plastic into the proper bin.
I remember one video where the recycle and normal trash bins were next to each other, but both went into the same bag. LOL.
If recycling was profitable, companies would pay people to recycle. Remember aluminum can collections?
Everything that happens with plastic is toxic. Just have to pick your battles. Some of the new landfill technology has completely isolated linings to keep a separation between trash and environment. Still have to wait thousands? of years for the trash to break down.
The most useful disposal for plastic seems to be in burning trash for energy production, but that still produces major toxic byproducts.
