Recommend me a good Android phone

submitted by frankenham to AskUpgoat 3.4 yearsFeb 6, 2022 17:59:16 ago (+7/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

Looking for a new phone maybe in the $200-$300 range. Something to help run my business with and has a good quality camera for taking property photos (doing lawncare type work)

I'm pretty out of the loop with tech and my current phone is like a $100 Moto E or something. Camera is pretty mediocre so I'd like to upgrade. I use Visible which uses Verizon networks if that makes any difference

Assuming you are talking USD, my phone was a bit more than that and the camera is shit. I'm looking to spend about twice your budget to just get a "cheap" (nothing is cheap anymore apparently) point and shoot digital camera to carry around. I'd recommend the same if you are upgrading simply for a camera.

Upgrade to a new Moto.
I have a couple 2yr old Moto G7's that have out-performed and outlasted many of the way-expensive "must have" phones my family and friends use.
Buy an unlocked phone so you can easily swap carriers if you need to.

They use Google at work, can you still install Google apps on Lineage OS? Also, I see the download but no instructions, how hard is it to install and are there phones it doesn't work on?

Jewgle Pixel.

The best thing about a Jewgle Pixel is that they get OS updates forever.

The worst thing is that nothing is changeable. Even the battery is built in.

You don't want a good android phone; you want a cheap android phone.

This is folkwisdom. "Something good requires that its expensive and out of reach"

Well, I just got a Motorola Moto G stylus from best buy. I got it because I told the bro at the phone desk I don't need a super badass phone because I only ever take pictures and surf the internet and watch youtube. No games. He pointed me towards this phone and I liked it because it's just a 4g phone, unlike most of the others they had, which were 5g and fuck that.

It's a big phone. It has a stylus. It's kinda heavy. The battery lasts a long time. It's "fast." Good camera/s. The counter-sunk power/sleep button is super nice so you don't accidentally press it. All for $300. Well with tax and a 1 year protection plan it was like $375.

I've had luck with 2nd hand LG ones. Fkn thing is 7 years old now and still goes fine. No breaks even without using a case and abusing the shit out of it, just use a tempered screen protector. Paid about 250 for it way back, and I'll do the same for a new one.

Batteries turn to shit on old phones, and it's almost impossible to get a decent replacement battery. LG left the mobile phone market about a year ago.
