It just demonstrates the primacy of tribalism. Sure, national loyalty and service to one's country. Great. What happens when there is no nation? When there is no common sense of unified totality as a people (in contradistinction to government), say, as a result of flooding a nation's population with foreigners and stratifying everything? You get reversion to the next most comfortable form of safety. The tribe.

These police officers are a tribe. Their wellbeing (income) unites them like being in the same boat together. They have no loyalty to the nation or to the people. There is no 'people' anymore. All of the blue-blood idealism I see floating around online misses this basic point. Any police officer has to first feel like he participates in and has allegiance to his common rank among the people. If he doesn't have that first, primary sense of belonging, he will become a unit in the tribe represented by his own vocation. His allegiance will be to the force. The people simply become objects, not fellows, in the theory of policing. At best a neutral object, but possibly obstructions, in the tribal activity of policing.
